BATH is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Situated in Somersetshire, UK, Bath was settled by the Romans in 43 AD as a thermal water spa, under the name of Aquae Sulis. The Romans built a beautiful system of stone baths around the thermal springs in the Avon Valley, as well as a temple dedicated to goddess Sulis Minerva. The Roman ruins in Bath are some of the most important Roman vestiges North of the Alps.

Declared a city by Queen Elizabeth I in 1590, Bath bloomed during the Georgian Age, when an urban development plan was designed, putting the Georgian architectural style to work so as to create a garden-city, where architecture blends in with nature. The goal was to turn Bath into one of the most beautiful European cities.

An important centre of European architecture in the 18th century, Bath’s downtown boasts a medieval construction that blends in perfect harmony with the Georgian architecture and the Roman baths and temple, even though they are centuries apart. This is the Bath Abbey, where King Edgar of England was crowned in 973.
