Chongqing is China’s third city, after Shanghai and Beijing. It is situated at the convergence of Yangtze and Jialing rivers. Over 12 million people live in the city, but the entire municipality (which includes some rural areas) has a population of around 32 million.

The semi-mythical State of Ba is said to have been on the site of Chongqing. The state was supposedly set by the Ba people in the 11th century BC and subsequently conquered by the State of Qin, in 316 BC.
