Cloud forest or fog forest, as it is also called, this is a tropical or subtropical forest growing at high altitudes, clouds usually embracing the tree crowns. Only 1% of the global woodland is covered by cloud forests.

There is a relatively small band of altitude with the right atmospheric environment for this type of jungle to develop. Usually these forests grow on mountain necks, where humidity from the clouds is more constant.

Vegetation in these forests is very abundant and orchids are one of the species that grow naturally in this type of climate.
