KATHMANDU is the capital of Nepal.

The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 metres in the bowl-shaped Kathmandu Valley in central Nepal, surrounded by mountains.

Situated on the Silk Road linking India and Tibet, Kathmandu's trade is an ancient profession. For centuries, the merchants from Lhasa have conducted trade across the Himalayas and contributed to spreading Buddhism and traditional art across Central Asia.

Kathmandu is home of some of the most beautiful and important monuments in the world, listed as world heritage sites by Unesco.
