pampas Photos

Pampas is considered one of the most threatened natural habitats in the world.

Pampas is a kind of South-American steppe, with a biotope similar to that of the prairie. It is situated in the central area of South America (mainly in Argentina, Uruguay, Brasil), covering an area of 770,000 square kilometres, between the Atlantic and the Andes.

The greatest part of its surface is nowadays used for growing crops and raising cattle – it being the main region for animal husbandry. Expanding agricultural use of the area, as well as excessive fertilization, overuse and fires have had a severe impact on the region’s biodiversity, and only few wild areas survive in the legendary pampas.
