villefranche-sur-mer Photos

VILLEFRANCHE SUR MER is included in the national French heritage, for its historical monuments.

Situated on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, Villefranche sur Mer’s history starts as early as Celtic times, and then continues with a Greek and Roman stage.

Among the historical monuments it boasts: Saint Michel Church, built in 1750 on the site of a 14th century church, Saint Pierre Chapel from the 16th century, the old port built for the Duke of Savoy in the 17th century, the buildings around the port, Rue Obscure that dates back to 1260 and the citadel built in 1557.

Nowadays it is the most visited French port by cruiseships, as well as a winter residence to many royal families and celebrities in the world. The famous Vila Leopolda is here, residence of King Leopold II of Belgium – considered the most expensive house in the world.
