AGRA FORT is a UNESCO world heritage site.
The Red Fort of Agra was founded in 1565 by the Emperor Akbar the Great (1556-1605) as a imperial city of the Mughal rulers, including many palaces, halls, mosques and courtyards.
Agra is where Akbar's father, emperor Humayun (the son of the founder of the Mughal Empire) was crowned and offered precious stones like the famous diamond Koh-i-Noor, by the local Raja.
Akbar's grandson, Shah Jahan, the one who built the famous Taj Mahal as a tomb for his wife, was imprisoned here by his own son Aurangzeb (from another wife). He lived inside the fort for the rest of his life and died in Musamman Burj, a tower with a marble balcony with a view of his amazing masterpiece, Taj Mahal.
