The Arabian Desert has an area of 2,330,000 square kilometres, which means it occupies the largest part of the Arabian peninsula. Most of the Arabian Desert is in Saudi Arabia.
Extremely dry and hot in summer, and with huge differences in temperature between the extremely hot days and cold nights, this is one of the most extreme environment and only few desert–adapted species can survive here. It features everything from deadly quicksand to spectacular red dunes.
In the centre of the desert is Rub’al-Khali, one of the widest uninterrupted stretches of sandland in the world (according to some sources, the widest one, actually).
