Liechtenstein is the 6th smallest country in the world and the 4th smallest in Europe. It has an area of only 160 square kilometres and a North-South axis of 24 km. It is one of only two doubly landlocked countries in the world, having no coast and being surrounded by countries that do not have a coast either.
It is the smallest German-language country, and the only one which has no border with Germany. It is one of the few countries in the world which does not have an armed force, the army being made redundant right after the Austro-Prussac war (Lichtenstein participated with an 80-people armed force).
The country landscape is formed by mountains and predominantly agricultural fields and small farms. However, it also has a strong financial sector, which makes it a so-called fiscal paradise. The population has one of the highest living standards in the world, and the Prince of Lichtenstein is the world’s sixth richest monarch in the world.
