TEMPLE OF HEAVEN (TIANTAN) is a UNESCO world heritage site.
An example of Ming Dynasty religious architecture, the Temple of Heaven was built at the beginning of the 15th century and it symbolizes the connection between the Earth and Heaven. It was used as the site for the most important rituals and ceremonies performed by the Chinese Emperor along the year.
The most impressive building is Qinian Dian, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, situated in a spot considered to be the meeting point of Heaven and Earth. It is a forty metres tall circular building, completely wooden, with no nails. It has three levels and the roofs are painted blue, the colour of Heaven.
